Portugal's percentage of fully electric cars on roads reached 1.87 percent in 2023, slightly surpassing the European Union (EU) average of 1.7 percent, according to Eurostat data.

With a total vehicle fleet of 5.9 million cars, Portugal boasted 111,000 fully electric vehicles, reflecting a growing shift towards sustainable transportation, Portugal's Lusa News Agency reported on Sunday.

Across the EU, over 256.5 million passenger vehicles were on the roads last year, but only 4.48 million were 100 percent electric.

As part of its commitment to environmental sustainability, the Portuguese government has been implementing various measures to support the transition to electric mobility, including subsidies for Electric Vehicles (EV) purchases and investments in charging infrastructure.
